The Photography of Russell Frederick
Today, at the 2012 New York Photo Festival in Dumbo, I was introduced to the black and white photos of Russell Frederick who is documenting the diverse culture of Bedford Stuyvesant that is rapidly disappearing because of gentrification. These days, who doesn’t know a young yuppie who has an apartment in Bed Stuy? Will Russell Frederick have to photograph the migration of the original residents away from Brooklyn the way the great black artist– Jacob Lawrence http://www.phillipscollection.org/migration_series/index.cfm painted the migration of the blacks from the south?

I’m sorry to hear that the diverse culture is disappearing. Why does that have to happen?
