SPRING IS HERE AND SO IS MY BROOKLYN BOTANICAL GARDEN POCKETBOOK
“Spring has returned. The earth is like a child that knows poems.” ——-Rilke
I was giddy with spring at the Botanical Gardens, the cherry trees in bloom, the tulips and daffodils, the air heady with pollen. And then, in the gift shop, I was dazzled by the landscapes that bloomed on the pocketbooks. Artist Fancine Sokol’s scenes, their perspectives that draw you in, are something to behold.
When I was in Manhattan with my pocketbook on my arm, a woman came rushing up to me. “Oh, the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens,” she chirped, her hands folded, prayer-like. The trees are in bloom now?”
Thanks to my new pocketbook, they will bloom all year round.
