Renoir, the film
Saw Renoir today. Each frame is as beautiful as one of his paintings. My husband found it slow-moving, but I was enchanted. He, a solid advocate of women’s rights, was unsympathetic toward the heroine while I was ready to storm the Bastille for her. I wonder which side of the aisle you’ll find yourself on?

I saw it, too. Rochelle. I liked the heroine. As writers (and humans) we all know that we are not perfect. When our heroine was a weak feminist, it was a lovely (if painful reminder) of what women have been through in the past. To the extent that she was strong (and somewhat manipulative), well…that was alos a reminder that women used what was available to them. Things are really not so different for most of us today, are they? And as writers ourselves, we know that when we write imperfections into our characters they are all the more real–and interesting.
