FRANKENWEENIE: Tim Burton’s best so far
The classic Frankenstein story. Young Victor Frankenstein lives with his parents and his dog. He’s isolated from other kids, an endearingly oddball who devotes himself to science. When his dog, Sparky, is killed by a car, Victor becomes depressed. His brilliant and wonderfully creepy science teacher who looks and sounds like Vincent Price, gives a demonstration of how electricity can be used to make a dead frog’s muscles move. Vincent get the idea to resurrect Sparky by harnessing the power from his suburb, New Holland’s, frequent electrical storms. When Sparky comes back to life, everything runs amok. Villainous boys competing for the science fair try to steal Victor’s secret and raise hell. You’ll get every penny’s worth of admission just to hear the science teacher’s diatribe against the parents’ hatred of science, mirroring the evangelical cry for creationism in the schools.
