Journal of a Residence on a Georgia Plantation, 1838-1839 by Francis M. Kemble
This is such a vital document. An Englishwoman’s experience living for a while on a Georgia plantation. Though compassionate, her POV is stilted by her upbringing, but she still manages to deliver truth in all its rawness. The more some states seek to prevent students from learning about slavery, the more passionate I’ve become about finding out as much as I can. After all, I’m a student of life, no matter my age, aren’t I?
