Dawn Raffel gave a spellbinding talk and slideshow at Quest, an adult learning center today. Reading about how this bogus doctor from Croatia saved 7000 premature babies a hundred years ago by putting them in incubators when there were none or only a few in hospitals. And he had to fund his mission by putting the incubator babies on display at sideshows in order to pay for their care. Hospitals were under the sway of Eugenics back then. That premies were inferior and didn’t deserve to be kept alive. No summary of mine would give this book what it deserves. See if you can read it. It’s a short , fascinating read, with excellent pictures.
