THE NICKEL BOYS by Colson Whitehead
Sometimes Pulitzer prize-winning books are arcane or a snore (ashamed to admit) but not Nickel Boys with its heartbreaking and true story of poor boys, mostly black, who were corralled into a vicious “correctional school” in the South. The plot structure is fascinating as well. You can look f further into it on the web, but I highly recommend it. I also love to champion books that might no longer be on the rear. So much is published (which is great) but we are always onto the next new thing without a look back. Do you think that R. Scott Fitzgerald’s work would still be read if written today? Dickens? Hardy? Hmm. These are all white males. Luckily we have such a wide scope of writers these days. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fbpsi.org%2Fthe-nickel-boys-a-novel%2F&psig=AOvVaw0zoiYEYM2QUhdE2W_NCUlM&ust=1711394230304000&source=images&cd=vfe&opi=89978449&ved=0CBIQjhxqFwoTCKiWkr7OjYUDFQAAAAAdAAAAABAD
